Mike Magee is the first player in Fire history to claim the award.
New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) -
Chicago Fire forward Mike Magee has been voted the Volkswagen MLS Most Valuable Player for the 2013 season, it was announced Thursday.
Magee came to the Fire in a trade on May 25 from the Los Angeles Galaxy and made an immediate impact with the club, recording 15 goals and four assists in 22 games. The 29-year-old's six goals with the Galaxy brought his season total to 21 goals, one shy of Camilo Sanvezzo's Golden Boot output this term.
The eleven-year MLS veteran becomes the fifth Chicago Fire player to be nominated for MVP but is the first player in club history to claim the award.

So often in American sports the best two teams usually don't meet in the championship contest.
Generally, that's because a team gets hot at the end of the season, sneaks into the playoffs and rumbles to a title (see: 2007 New York Giants, 2012 Los Angeles Kings.)
Thankfully, that isn't the case with this season's MLS finale as Sporting Kansas City and Real Salt Lake were the two best teams all season long, and we have a spectacular final on our hands with intriguing matchups all over the pitch.
